About Drenth Publishing
Drenth Publishing started in February 2012 as a means to aid the publication and distribution of limited-print works of research in the field of military history. The idea of entering the business of self-publishing started when the Regimental list of half-pay officers for 1714 was in preparation and means were sought to get the manuscript published, printed and distributed.
The first idea was to arrange those tasks via print-on-demand and/or (pseudo) self-publishing companies like Lulu. Companies offering such services are widespread, and competative regarding pricing. However, most offer only a limited range of packages and virtually none was able to provide a package in which I could handle publication and printing the way I would like. Unless, probably, at a much higher price.
Thus, in February 2012 it was decided to start publishing under my own banner and have control over all parameters that play a role when publishing a book. A first step was to register my own publishing house, Drenth Publishing, so that I would have my own range of ISBN numbers. This would ensure me that ownership of the published works would remain with me as author. The second step involved finding a printer to perform the work of transforming the digital document into nicely printed and bound stacks of paper. After requesting bits and pieces of information from various printers, it turned out that the people at GVO Drukkers could be entrusted with this job.
